Mechanical dock levelers use springs to move up and down. Springs are sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Therefore, during extreme heat or cold, springs require constant adjustment to work properly. This causes a lot of wear and tear on the spring. Additionally, since the springs are in use when the dock leveler is in use, they wear out more quickly. Springs are the most frequently replaced parts on mechanical dock lifters. This spring is a main lifting spring for a Kelley Atlantic mechanical dock lifter. When springs fail, the dock leveler will not move up or down, and the dock leveler cannot be manually moved to the proper position.
