Gas springs are used in mechanical dock levelers. Gas springs are very sensitive to changes in temperature, especially in the winter and the summer, so they need continual adjustment in extreme heat and extreme cold. Because gas springs are always in action in mechanical dock levelers, they tend to wear out faster than other parts and need to be replaced more frequently.
This part is for a Kelley mechanical dock lifter. Gas springs are used to move the dock leveler up to the desired position. When gas springs fail, the dock leveler will not move up, and there is no amount of human muscle that can force it up into the right position.
