A dock leveler pawl is a toothed device that works in conjunction with the ratchet bar of the hold-down to limit its movement, which in turn controls the dock leveler ramp. When the teeth on the pawl get damaged, the pawl can no longer hold the ratchet bar in place, allowing dangerous pop ups to occur. This part is for Rite-Hite mechanical dock levelers. It is a replacement part that keeps the ratchet bar of the hold-down in place, which virtually eliminates the chance that dock leveler pop-ups will occur.
